🔔 ACTION NEEDED 🔔

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, we would like to bring your attention to the situation surrounding the ICWA act.

On Nov. 9, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the constitutionality of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). This 44-year-old law was implemented to address the systemic removal of Native children from their families, communities, and culture.

If the Supreme Court decided to dismantle ICWA, it would have devastating effects not only on Native children and communities but for Tribes’ inherent right to self-govern and determine what is best for their citizens.

Extra Credit with Professor Mark Sivak! 📝

Here I share something design or tech related from the week for those looking for just a little extra credit.

This was a slow news week in the area of tech and design outside of Twitter and crypto. So I decided to dig back into my archive to share a favorite TED Talk of mine from Tim Harford. In the past I have talked about his podcast, Cautionary Tales, but how I first heard of the economist and author is from his first TED talk titled “How frustration can make us more creative.” In his talk he presents several studies and stories that show that making people somewhat uncomfortable makes them more creative. As we move toward final projects in the semester keep this evidence in mind.

Thoughts and feedback about the extra credit this week or want to submit one for next week? Email me at m.sivak@northeastern.edu.
